Exceptional Ethical Behavior and Professional Committment Award

Purpose of the Award:
This award was established in honor of Cheryl McGaffic, Robin Rogers, and Barbara Monroe. These three nurses were members of Sigma Theta Tau International, Beta Mu Chapter. They exhibited exceptional ethical behavior and professional commitment in their roles as faculty members, protecting the safety of community members by upholding standards of safe practice among their students. They remain inspirations for exceptional ethical behavior and professional commitment in all dimensions of our lives.

Nomination: Eligibility Criteria:
Registered nurses who model exceptional ethical behavior and professional commitment in their professional, volunteer or personal life are eligible to be nominated for this award. The nominee may or may not be a member of Beta Mu Chapter. However, the nurse submitting the nomination must be a member of STTI, Beta Mu Chapter.

Award Criteria:
The award criteria are drawn from the American Nurse’s Association Code of Ethics, which are designed to guide ethical behavior of all registered nurses. Nominees for this award will be nurses who exemplify ethical behavior and/or professional commitment consistent with the following principles of the American Nurse’s Association Code of Ethics:

 

  1. The nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of the health problem.
  2. The nurse’s primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group or community.
  3. The nurse promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient.

 

Nomination Packet Information:
The nomination packet must include:

  1. Letter of nomination from the Beta Mu member explaining how the nominee has demonstrated exceptional ethical behavior and/or professional commitment consistent with at least one of the ethical principles list above.
  2. A form signed by the nominee agreeing to the nomination, and providing information on how he or she can be contacted.
  3. Letters of support from colleagues, or other persons with personal knowledge of how the nominee has exemplified/demonstrated exceptional ethical behavior. (maximum of three).

Please submit the nomination letter, letters of support and the nominee form to Becky Hull by February 14, 2006.  

The Beta Mu Exceptional Ethical Behavior and Professional Commitment Award will be granted at the Beta Mu Induction Banquet in April.
